Transmissions Quilts has recently released an ambient music album in collaboration with Cone Shape Top Imprint to explore the rich history of quilts and sound. at this special BUBBLES day we will be sharing “transmissions quilt sounds” inside saunas (warm listening stations!), imbuing your traditional sauna experience with sounds from trans musicians.

 

this event will also include a quilting bee, during which you will be invited to add stitches to a Transmissions quilt being delivered to one of the album musicians themselves. no experience necessary, we will teach you a very simple knot tying method to help complete the quilt. 

 

we are putting out a special invitation for you (yes, you) to bring a quilt or blanket to add to a display of quilts delivered through the project and connected to the album. This part of the event is  a nod to a traditional “Airing of the Quilts” gathering, which has roots in Appalachia and is a time when people bring their quilts outdoors to both air them out and share them in a community gallery/gathering. Come bring a quilt you’d like to float in the Bay-side breeze for the day or for an hour. Place your quilt next to other quilts and see how they hold hands and sing together. 

 

the day will also feature tarot readings, quilt merch (bandanas, photos, zines) and general good vibes. you do not need to book a sauna to attend!! individual tickets are being sold at a sliding scale of $5-25 (NOTAFLOF!). this event is a fundraiser for Bay 2 Gaza Mutual Aid Collective and all of your tickets and any other donations will go towards supporting our Palestinian siblings.
